Understanding the treatment
How the treatment works, and what it is for.
Platelet-rich plasma is prepared from your own blood, then reinjected to stimulate the follicles still present.
The stage of the alopecia determines the result: the more advanced it is, the less PRP can do. An assessment first looks for an associated cause, iron deficiency, thyroid disorder, medication. PRP is part of a complete plan: scalp examination and standardised photos, a targeted blood test, correction of any underlying cause and, when indicated, a long-term treatment. Photos are repeated at three and six months: if no benefit is seen, PRP is stopped.
Autumn hair shedding or baldness?
When PRP makes sense, and when it is better to wait.
In autumn, many people find more hair in their brush. This seasonal shedding has been measured in studies: it is more marked at the end of summer and in autumn, then stops on its own, and the hairs that fall out are replaced by new ones. PRP has no place in this situation.
Baldness, or androgenetic alopecia, is different: it progresses slowly and does not stop on its own. The temples recede, the crown thins or the parting widens. PRP has mainly been studied in this situation, with a modest effect that varies from one person to another, and evidence that is still weak.
In both cases, the check-up comes first: the history of the hair loss, a scalp examination and, depending on the situation, a targeted blood test, which your general practitioner can also arrange. Why the medical check-up comes before aesthetics.

You receive written information and a detailed estimate. With your written consent, the treatment takes place the same day, straight after the consultation.

Preparation and aftercare
- Drink normally the day before and on the day, and eat a light meal before the session.
- Tell us about any anticoagulants or clotting disorder. Do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice.
- Avoid non-prescribed anti-inflammatory medicines (such as ibuprofen) in the preceding days: they reduce platelet activity.
- For the scalp: come with clean hair and no styling product.
- Transient redness and swelling at the injection points are usual. Activities resume immediately.
- Avoid intense exercise, sauna and steam room for twenty-four hours.
Results, if they occur, appear over several months. Maintenance is then needed.

- Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)
- Blood disorder
- Active cancer
- Active infection of the scalp
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Scarring alopecia (PRP is not indicated)
Adverse effects and complications
Frequent and transient: redness, swelling, mild pain at the injection point, local bruising.
Rarer: infection, inflammatory reaction. Any unusual event must be reported to the practice, which has a protocol for managing complications.

VAT included. The exact amount appears on the estimate given before the treatment.

Sterile preparation kit included. The usual protocol is three sessions, about four weeks apart.
No package: each session is paid on the day it takes place. VAT included where it applies; a therapeutic treatment is exempt.

This treatment is carried out at the Anderlecht practice, in Brussels: Avenue du Roi-Soldat 79, 1070 Anderlecht. By public transport: metro 5 (Veeweyde station), line 81 (Ysaye stop), buses 46 and 75. Street parking; allow extra time at peak hours. Hours: Monday 13:00–18:00 · Wednesday 13:00–18:00, by appointment. The doctor consults in French, Turkish or English. Consultations also in Braine-l'Alleud, by appointment.
During the works, this part of line 81 is served by a replacement bus. Check the STIB information before you set off.
