Clinical examination of the face: photographs, measurements, indication and contraindications.

Very fine needles are used. The pinpricks are brief and usually only mildly painful. Anaesthesia is generally unnecessary.

Contact the practice immediately for intense pain, pale or mottled skin, or visual disturbance. These signs may indicate a vascular complication. Direct contact details are provided after injection.

Avoid exposure for several weeks. Apply broad-spectrum protection daily. Sun exposure increases the risk of lasting hyperpigmentation.

It looks for iron deficiency, thyroid disease or a medication-related cause. Treating the cause may take priority. PRP remains an adjunct treatment.
